NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of Degree at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programs. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service.

NSS Vision

The Vision of NSS is people living and working in thriving communities beyond the Earth, and the use of the vast resources of space for the dramatic betterment of humanity.

NSS Mission

The Mission of NSS is to promote social, economic, technological, and political change in order to expand civilization beyond Earth, to settle space and to use the resulting resources to build a hopeful and prosperous future for humanity.

OBJECTIVES OF NSS

  • - To understand the community in which they work.
  • - To understand themselves in relation to their community.
  • - To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process.
  • - To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  • - To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems.
  • - To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
  • - To gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
  • - To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
  • - To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
  • - To practice national integration and social harmony.

MOTTO

The motto of NSS “not me but you” reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person’s point of view and also show consideration to other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is well doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well being of the society.

With the goal to work for the betterment of society and instill the spirit of Social Service among the young students, with this motto GMS Academy First Grade College, Davanagere established NSS unit in the year 2015 to undertake the Comprehensive projects in close collaboration with community.

Student volunteers actively involving in all such activities for the welfare of society and themselves.
